- By the latter part of the nineteenth century the fire engine house had moved to a timber building on the southern corner of Vicarage Street at its junction with Silver Street. This engine house stood on the same site as the one that followed [Yeovil old 4], but as increased accommodation was required, and the road at that point was too narrow for the prevailing traffic, the Town Council decided to purchase a cottage adjoining, to widen the road, to extend the length of the engine house, and to add a room over one end of it for the use of the Committee of the Brigade |
