- In 1940 the old fire engine house was demolished and the new fire station built a few yards away on the site of the Old Black Boys Bowling Green known as John Soame's Corner. It was built as a single storey with two bays and a cellar. The station was extended in the early 1960's by a local builder to the present size [so 1955 date appears incorrect]
